Ownership & Authentication
Ownership authentication is how you prove that you own a specific TwinMeta item — not just that the item is genuine, but that this particular product belongs to your wallet.

What authentication requires
Authentication combines three things. All three are required — none of them alone is enough.

| On-chain ownership | That wallet is the on-chain owner of this exact item. |
This is a change from earlier designs: tapping the physical NFC card is now required, not optional. The goal is simple — only someone with the real card in hand can authenticate ownership.
How it works, step by step
Authentication starts in the TwinMeta app by tapping the item's NFC card.
The app's only job is to read the card and hand off to TwinMeta web; signing in, the wallet signature, and the final check all happen on the web side.
Where you can authenticate
Because tapping the physical NFC card is required, authentication only works where the app can read the card:
- ✅ On a phone, in the TwinMeta app, with the item's NFC card — the supported path.
- ❌ On a desktop / web browser, without NFC, or without the app — you can still look up and view the item, but you cannot authenticate ownership.
In unsupported environments, the product shows a message explaining that ownership authentication needs the TwinMeta app and the physical NFC card, so you're never left at a dead end.
